Bell South modernized its raised-floor data/telecommunications center at about one-third the cost of constructing a new one. The facility needed to remain operational at the highest level of reliability while renovations took place. Exp developed a five-year strategic master plan and evaluated a local design team to ensure that initial feasibility was retained. In addition, exp was the prime consultant for this project.

The facility currently provides the Death Valley area with Voice, Data, and Emergency 911 Services which are only available via Microwave Digital Radio. Installation of conventional stand-by power propane generator/alternators were not permitted due National Park Environmental Regulations and non-vehicle access to the site for servicing and maintenance. Therefore, in order to maintain the existing services on-line the project incorporated installation of a passive solar panel power system to provide a redundant power source for telephone equipment and air conditioning equipment in the event of a commercial electrical service outage. Additional mechanical ventilation modifications were required to accommodate the redundant power source.

Discovery Communications' state-of-the-art Tier-3 facility established a fully-digital mode of operation for the company. Mission-critical processes conducted on this site include satellite uplink, IT disaster recovery, backup of a sister facility in Miami, origination of BBC-America broadcasts, emergency center operations and corporate accounting.

Exp was responsible for the design and deployment of satellite operations centers in Monee, Illinois; Spokane, Washington; Mt. Jackson, Virginia; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and New Braunfels, Texas. These facilities were based on a secure operations center and a RF communications building and contain raised technical space as well as administrative offices and technical support areas.

The project includes creating new raised floor space at the existing facility for the high & low density power equipment expansion, and new raised floor space for the transport room and for the electrical room. To accommodate this expansion the two existing 400kW generators will be replaced with two new 1000kW generators. The expansion will ultimately be equipped with four 150kVA UPS units, two 75kVA PDU units and two 75kVA STS-PDU units. Card readers, security camera, electric strike, door contacts and motion sensors for the new areas will be provided as well as additional fire alarm detection equipment. The new areas will be provided with pre-action sprinkler supplied from the existing pre-action system. The high density hot-aisle enclosure shall include ceiling penetrations for pre-action sprinklers to be extended into.

In support of a sweeping strategic and structural redirection led by Putnam's President and CEO, Robert L. Reynolds, a complete transformation of the trading floor took place - establishing an open and collaborative space. Exp provided design expertise for the technically advanced computing systems, low trading desks, glass partitions on which images can be projected and a raised floor to allow seamless modifications to the power and communications systems. The trading floor has become a showpiece for Putnam, utilized to woo new clientele, attract new employees and retain existing traders.

We have completed more than 40 projects for AOL-Time Warner since 1998. Electrical and mechanical systems supporting the facility infrastructure and telecommunications processing were also evaluated and tested to confirm the existing performance and capacity.

We were the prime consultant to the Owner. The work was the detailed testing, benchmarking of existing data center, telecommunication spaces, master planning, budgeting and design disciplines including electrical, mechanical, life safety/fire protection, automation, electrical/mechanical monitoring and commissioning.

Our team was commissioned to design and build a new data center along with dedicated supporting power and HVAC elements that is located within the defined area of Uline's existing warehouse complex. The scope included the provisions for a new dedicated utility AC Power service and a 600Kw standby generator system. This interior, stand-alone facility was designed as a "hardened" structure with a higher level of protection for security of Uline computer systems as well as for water/moisture penetration in case of surrounding elements.

Exp provides ongoing commissioning services to maintain Verizon Wireless' most reliable network and achieve a Standard Operating Environment for its wireless switching and mission critical facilities.

The building will house telecommunications equipment that will provide various services to VZW customers on a regional level. This is considered an essential facility in accordance with the International Building Code.

These buildings typically provide federally mandated emergency communications per the FCC. VZW has established a series of standards for design construction. Exp will test, verify, and document the installation through our commissioning process.
